Like You Love Me
Live on the radio(ish)
L-R: Dreamer & the Hoping Machine: Laurie Haag, Alma Drake, Jean Littlejohn, Pappy Klocke; with KCCK’s Dennis Green, at KCCK-fm’s Culture Crawl, performing "Like You Love Me,” written by Sasha Jacob and Alma Drake
This is what I was waiting for to post this week!
This song was a collaboration between myself and one of Family Folk Machine’s brilliant youth members, Sasha Jacob, a fine emerging guitarist and songwriter in her own right. The theme of the concert was love, and we realized that there was no song about self-love, so Sasha and I decided to write one.
Enjoy!
You call me out when I’m hatin’ on myself
You lift me up when I’m tearin’ myself down
You remind me that I’m worthy of my own love
I can be my own light when darkness surrounds
You’ve got to know what feels like love
So you know it when you find it
Chorus
Love has to start from within
Has to grow up strong and wild
Before it can go out in the world
Starting now, I’m gonna treat myself better
Learn to love me, like you love me, mm hmm
I call you out when you’re hatin’ on yourself
I lift you up when you have yourself on the floor
It’s so easy to see it on the outside
But invisible when it comes to the mirror
You’ve got to know what looks like love
So you don’t end up blinded
Chorus
(Mm hmm), uh huh, yeah yeah
You’ve got to know what feels like love
So you know it when you find it
You’ve got to know what looks like love
So you don’t end up blinded
You’ve got to know what feels like love
So you know it when you find it
You’ve got to know what looks like love
So you don’t end up blind
Mm hmm
